On the subject of ecofeminism and queer ecologies, this session will take Greta Gaard’s seminal 1997 article ‘Toward a Queer Ecofeminism’ as a starting point to consider questions on environmental justice and its linkages with feminism and queer theory. It encouraged us to reflect on the social construction of the “natural” and its relation to gender and sexuality, as well as rhetorics of domination and colonialism.

 

To help inform the discussion, you are encouraged to read Gaard’s article in preparation for the event (text available on FindIt here). The reading is not a requirement for the discussion, though, and there will be a brief recap at the beginning of the session. So please do come along even if you are unable to read the whole article.
